CLSC 213 - CLINICAL MICROBIOLOGY, IMMUNOLOGY AND SEROLOGY
  • PLO 1: Evaluate patient and quality control test results, recognizing normal, abnormal, and critical values, and take appropriate follow up action when necessary
    • CLO 5: Differentiate normal and pathogenic microorganisms from various body sites, and relate normal and abnormal test results of laboratory tests performed in Clinical Microbiology and Serology to their clinical significance.
    • CLO 7: Demonstrate decision-making / problem-solving skills in the performance of clinical microbiology and serology test procedures.
  • PLO 2: Sufficient technical skill in the use of laboratory information systems to meet the needs of the laboratory
    • CLO 6: Demonstrate satisfactory entry-level skill at the Medical Laboratory Technician level in the performance of laboratory tests in the areas of Clinical Microbiology and Serology.
  • PLO 4: Perform routine clinical laboratory testing in the Hematology, Immunohematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Immunology / Serology, and Coagulation areas of the clinical laboratory
    • CLO 6: Demonstrate satisfactory entry-level skill at the Medical Laboratory Technician level in the performance of laboratory tests in the areas of Clinical Microbiology and Serology.
  • PLO 5: Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation in the Hematology, Immunohematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Immunology / Serology, and Coagulation areas of the clinical laboratory
    • CLO 6: Demonstrate satisfactory entry-level skill at the Medical Laboratory Technician level in the performance of laboratory tests in the areas of Clinical Microbiology and Serology.
  • PLO 6: Recognize the clinical significance of laboratory results in the diagnosis and treatment of disease
    • CLO 5: Differentiate normal and pathogenic microorganisms from various body sites, and relate normal and abnormal test results of laboratory tests performed in Clinical Microbiology and Serology to their clinical significance.
  • PLO 7: Participate in the appropriate aspects of a laboratory quality assurance program

  • PLO 11: Successfully pass a National Certification Exam (ASCP) in Clinical Laboratory Science Technology
    • CLO 1: Explain the etiology and epidemiology of infectious disease caused by clinically important bacterial, fungal, parasitic, and viral microorganisms.
    • CLO 2: Describe principles and procedures of tests performed in a clinical laboratory for the identification of pathogenic bacteria, fungal organisms, parasites, and antibiotic susceptibility testing.
    • CLO 3: Identify the various functions of the immune system in fighting disease.
    • CLO 4: Describe the principles and procedures of tests performed in a clinical laboratory in the department of Serology.
    • CLO 5: Differentiate normal and pathogenic microorganisms from various body sites, and relate normal and abnormal test results of laboratory tests performed in Clinical Microbiology and Serology to their clinical significance.
  • PLO 12: Recognize various problems that occur and offer solutions in pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of laboratory testing.
