Learning Outcomes Relationships
PLO 1: The role of corrections in the criminal justice system
CLO 1: Identify provisions of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) defining state correctional laws regarding inmate care and maintenance.
CLO 2: Discuss the basic legal elements of tort liability relating to the duties and performance of correctional officers.
CLO 3: Explain the civil litigation process from complaint filing through appellate review as it relates to inmate law.
CLO 4: Explain the difference between civil litigation and criminal prosecution as they relate to incidents behind institutional walls.
CLO 5: Identify defenses available to correctional employees necessitated by civil actions brought by inmates based upon allegations of employee misconduct.
CLO 6: Develop ethical standards for dealing with inmates consistent with those established by the American Correctional Association Code of Ethics.
PLO 3: Apply appropriate counseling therapies and/or recognized treatments in assisting clients in various correctional settings including but not limited to long and short-term correctional facilities, diversion, and post-incarceration aftercare programs
