STRP 101 - STERILE PROCESSING FUNDAMENTALS
  • PLO 1: Demonstrate an understanding of the principle, practices, and safety regulations in sterile processing to ensure safety and quality of care for patients.
    • CLO 7: Demonstrate basic decontamination and sterilization processes for surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment.
  • PLO 2: Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical, moral, legal, and medical standards related to the patient and the sterile processing team.
    • CLO 4: Define the legal and ethical responsibilities of sterile processing technicians and their role in providing effective quality patient care.
  • PLO 4: Develop and maintain records related to sterilization processes along with identifying and troubleshooting common issues that may arise with sterilization equipment.
    • CLO 9: Identify and demonstrate reprocessing techniques for complex surgical instrumentation, including: power surgical instruments, endoscopes, and laparoscopic and robotic instrumentation.
  • PLO 5: Accurately demonstrate a safe and professional level of practice, skill and knowledge in their role as an entry-level Sterile Processing Technician.
    • CLO 1: Describe the importance of workflow in a modern organized central service department.
    • CLO 2: Recall of anatomy and physiology of the human body in relation to the processing of surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment.
    • CLO 3: Discuss basic microbiology and identification of common microbes and diseases found in today's healthcare environment.
    • CLO 5: Identification of basic surgical instrumentation in general, gynecology, obstetrics, and urology surgical specialties.
    • CLO 6: Demonstrate the use of hand hygiene and donning proper personal protective equipment.
  • PLO 6: Graduates will be prepared to take the Healthcare Sterile Processing’s (formally known as IAHCSMM) Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) examination.
    • CLO 1: Describe the importance of workflow in a modern organized central service department.
    • CLO 2: Recall of anatomy and physiology of the human body in relation to the processing of surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment.
    • CLO 3: Discuss basic microbiology and identification of common microbes and diseases found in today's healthcare environment.
    • CLO 4: Define the legal and ethical responsibilities of sterile processing technicians and their role in providing effective quality patient care.
