ARAB 151G, ELEMENTARY ARABIC I 4 (5)
This course introduces the fundamental elements of effective communication in Arabic and will primarily focus on mastery of the alphabet. Language skills will be developed through cyclical practice in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will develop their understanding of the Arabic phonological system, basic conversational topics, vocabulary and simple sentences.

ARAB 152G, ELEMENTARY ARABIC II 4 (5)
This course continues the fundamental elements of effective communication in Arabic, and will primarily focus on mastery of the alphabet. Language skills will be expanded through cyclical practice in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will expand their Arabic vocabulary and communicate with increased complexity. Communication conventions and cultural background will provide a basis for cultural understanding.

ARAB 251G, INTERMEDIATE ARABIC I 3 (4)
This course is based on the integration of learning outcomes across interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication. Students accomplish real-world communicative tasks in culturally appropriate ways through Modern Standard Arabic and through colloquialisms of at least one dialect as they gain familiarity with products, practices, and perspectives of the target culture(s). Students learn grammar, vocabulary, and structures to enable them to meet functional performance goals at this level and to build a foundation for continued language learning. During this course, students can consistently perform in the Novice range while more abilities emerge and develop in the intermediate range.
