Veterans Standards of Progress

Veterans and Military Services under the direction of the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Services, will monitor/enforce standard practices for determining satisfactory progress and conduct of eligible persons receiving VA educational benefits.

Veterans and Military Services will develop, publicize and administer the institutional policies regarding continued pursuit and progress being made by students utilizing VA educational benefits.

College policy and academic records are maintained to reflect the progress of enrolled VA students and shall be the same as those prescribed for all LCCC students.  They shall contain grades for all classes attempted, together with the number of accumulated credit hours and the cumulative GPA. Not attending classes will affect your GPA and may lead to academic probation and/or dismissal.

In addition, Veterans and Military Services will maintain all school records pertaining to enrollment certification and change of status of each enrolled VA student. The College policy relative to Standards of Progress for Veterans will be as follows:

In accordance with 38 CFR 21.4203(d), 38 CFR 21.4277, 38 CFR 21.7154, 38 CFR 21.7653(c), 38 CFR 21.7654, and 38 CFR 21.9725, law requires that educational assistance benefits to Veterans and other eligible persons be discontinued when the student ceases to make satisfactory progress toward completion of a training objective. Benefits can be resumed if a student reenrolls in the same educational institution and in the same program. In other cases, benefits cannot be resumed unless VA finds that the cause of the unsatisfactory attendance, conduct or progress has been removed and the program of education or training to be pursued by the student is suitable to their aptitudes, interests and abilities.

At the conclusion of each semester, school certifying officials will report to VA those students who have been placed on academic probation or dismissed. Academic dismissal will be reported as a termination on the last day of the term. If a student successfully petitions the dismissal, is readmitted, and is already certified for the subsequent term, no termination will be reported.

VA does not permit repeating a course in which a passing grade has been granted. A letter grade of D is considered a passing grade by VA regulations. There are limited exceptions to this rule.

The college academic records maintained by LCCC shall reflect the following data concerning VA funded student progress:

  • Credit awarded toward the student's current program due to previous training and experience.
  • A final grade will be reported for each course attempted except those dropped within the first 12 weeks of any semester.
  • The dates of partial withdrawal and complete withdrawal shall be maintained on the formal withdrawal slip and also on the registration form for the semester.
  • All records will be cumulative and document all progress being made toward completion of a chosen program.
