Academic Programs
Curriculum Guides
To graduate, Lorain County Community College students must complete a minimum of 60 credit hours, exclusive of developmental education courses. Students planning to transfer are advised to consult with the intended transfer institution regarding any limitation on the number of transfer hours. Choices will require careful academic planning and advice. Students should consult regularly with an academic advisor while attending LCCC. The semesters indicated for the specific program courses are suggestions only. LCCC curriculum guides and transfer information for specific colleges are available in Enrollment, Financial, and Career Services division.
Curriculum guides outline all coursework required for a particular degree or certificate program. Curriculum guides are primarily used for two purposes:
- To provide students with a checklist that may be followed throughout their curriculum. By outlining all necessary coursework, a student may “check off” or “cross-off” courses that have been completed and then easily see which requirements remain to be completed.
- Curriculum guides are helpful to prospective students and students considering changing programs. They provide a resource for the courses and times involved with particular programs.
Program and Career Pathways
Students often need time to explore career options before selecting a specific program major. Choosing one of LCCC’s seven academic programs and career pathways allows students up to 24 credit hours to choose a specific degree or certificate program – without the expense typically associated with changing majors.
Students who declare universal arts or universal science without an additional transfer plan (Ohio Guarantee Transfer Pathway, University Partnership, etc.) after 24 credit hours will have a hold placed on their account in MyCampus. To remove the hold, students will meet with their advisor to declare a transfer plan or file a request to have the plan waived. Requests can be submitted on the Policy Exceptions Appeal form.
All students can access online and in-person tools to explore career options; however, students who are declared in an exploratory program and career pathway will receive additional outreach from their advisor and Career Services to encourage the use of these tools and services.
